Zimbio, the parent company of fashion and entertainments sites Zimbio and Stylebistro has just landed $8.9 million earlier this month in a second-round financing session. It’s already on the move spending its new cash. First order of business: Open up an office in NYC.
Investors include Menlo Ventures, Draper Associates, Great Oaks Venture Capital, Fenwick + West Investments, Comerica Bank and others.
Zimbio’s editor-in-chief, John Newlin just hired Danica Lo to head day-to-day editorial operations at StyleBistro.com. Lo is the author of “How Not to Look Fat” and Senior online beauty and fashion editor for Glamour. Lo started her career as an intern at The Post and worked as the national editor of Racked.com before joining Glamour.
“I knew that I had to take this job. In my professional life, the most important thing to me is doing interesting work.” says Lo on making the move to StyleBistro. ” I think, with the power of Zimbio behind it, StyleBistro is the place where we can make this happen.”
“Basically, it signals a branching out from our celebrity-centric fashion coverage,” said Newlin. “She’ll bring a wider skill set to cover beauty, fashion and some retailing.”
Newlin is based in Silicon Valley but plans to stop by New York to hire up to 6 more editors for his new office.
StyleBistro recently launched Fashion TV, a site that details the fashions worn by stars on a dozen TV shows including “The Voice,” “Glee,” “New Girl,” and “Modern Family.”
