NYC Tech Mobilizer is a lightweight summer program that helps guide beginners through the complicated world of startups. Now in its second year, mentees will get advice from NYC’s hottest startups like Foursquare, Gilt Groupe, Birchbox and Meetup.
The project is a brainchild of Fondu CTO Mike Lewis. “I got here with absolutely no network, no connections,” said Lewis. He recently moved to New York and said that it was, “the program that I wished I’d had when I first moved here with no connections and wanted to break into startups.”
“It’s win win for everybody,” Mr. Lewis said of the program. “It’s a chance for all the mentors to get to know each other and a way for them to get to know up and coming developers. For developers, it’s a way for them to get themselves tapped into the current ecosystem.”
NY Tech Mobilizer is free but it is only open to professional developers. Lewis said that there already too many programs for entrepreneurs so he made his program exclusive. “I feel like there’s a real lack of stuff out there for taking developers and helping them develop their leadership skills,” he admitted.
If you are enticed, act quick. NY Tech Mobilizer is only accepting 15 applicants. The application is until May 25.
