Kickstarter and “Made It” in NYC, a media production company and Kickstarter, the crowd sourced financing website, was one of the awardees honored in the Made in NY awards last Monday. the people and companies were honored for “making it” in NYC. The event took place at Gracie Manson

On its 7th year, the Made in NY Awards was an idea of Mayor Micheal R. Bloomberg to support the city’s entertainment and digital media industries. Mayor Bloomberg and Katherine Oliver, commissioner of the mayor’s office handed out the awards. The awards resemble an “oversize subway token” in the words of awardee Robert De Niro.

The others who “made it” were Gracie Mansion were Whoopi Goldberg, Kelly Ripa, Meryl Streep and, receiving the Made in NY Mayor’s Award for Lifetime Achievement, the husband-and-wife comedy team of Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara.

The award for Kickstarter was accepted by founders Charles Adler, Perry Chen and Yancey Strickler.  They said that the company would always be based in New York.

Chairman and chief exec Jon Kamen for accepted the award for his company. He said that he was a product of P.S. 131 in Queens. His company works very closely with Mayor Bloomberg’s office of media and entertainment. They even designed the “designed the Made in NY logo.”

The event was fun and filled with laughs as fellow awardees Streep and De Niro shared witty batter.
