Thrillist Media Groups appointed Gene Newman as Thrillist.com‘s first General Manager. Newman is based in the New York office and will oversee the site’s online and mobile platforms.
Newman has 15 years of digital media experience. He is most recently the Digital Edutor at Maxim and previously the Editorial Director at Hachette Filipacchi Media Digital.
A new editorial staff will expand beyond Thrillist’s current concentration of food and drink and will now include travel, tech & gadgets, style, auto, sports and entertainment.
Thrillist Media Group prsident Phillippe Guelton says Newman is perfect for this expansion. The site built a deep, habitual relationship with its readers, but they also want a site to keep them updated with everything that’s new.
We see an amazing opportunity to leverage the brand DNA and authority on other digital platforms,” said Guelton. “Gene knows these guys and his background and experience will prove to be invaluable to us as we expand Thrillist editorial.”
Newman is as excited for the teamup. He says the energy at Thrillist is contagious and he has powerful visions for the future. He also comended the team’s commitment to the digital space and he can’t wait to expand and conquer larger markets.
“The enthusiastic energy at Thrillist is contagious and I couldn’t be more excited to join a team that has such a powerful vision for the future,” said Newman. “Their commitment to the digital space is like none I’ve ever seen and I can’t wait for us to conquer the web as they already have the email space.”
Thrillist Media Group owns two brands: the men’s digital lifestyle publication Thrillist.com and members-only shopping club JackThreads.com. The brands collectively reach over 5 million daily subscribers, most of which are young, urban men.
