A veritable Who’s Who of the tech scene will be battling it out on table tennis for Backspin 2011 come Saturday afternoon. The Backspin NYC event is a collaborative partnership between Techies Give Back and Peter Ha, who ‘s an editor of The Daily when he’s not rallying the troops for a good cause. The tournament is XBox Kinect table tennis, so while the sweat is real, no balls will actually be flying through the air and out windows.
The tournament is to be held at General Assembly for the benefit of Child’s Play, a non-profit group that distributes game consoles and books for children in hospitals. The twin bracketed games will have space for singles and teams. The former are those individuals who wish to take part by themselves rather than as an official company representative–and for the cause, of course. The teams are more interesting, however, as warm bodies from FourSquare, Yipit, Hunch, TechStars NY, and NY Tech Meetup are already set to lock horns. Note that the competition will involve a lot of developers and programmers, so it’s likely those gaming skills honed at the workplace are going to prove useful.
Pat and Jeff of Bleep Bloop fame are presiding over MC duties.
Those interested in witnessing the spectacle can still buy tickets here.
