An Interview With Doug Petkanics, Co-Founder of Hyperpublic

Doug Petkanics portraitDoug Petkanics is the co-founder of Hyperpublic, a web utility to discover the people, places and things in a person’s hyper-location. Hyperpublic is building a structured dataset for the user’s local world.  Not only is it a web portal for a user to upload/discover their local environment, it’s also a platform and data provider for third-party applications to innovate with it.  Hyperpublic are currently looking for smart people who are interested in solving the local problem. Doug will be presenting at the upcoming NY Tech Mixer Demo and Drinks event this February 15.

Why does the world needs your product?

The problem is two-fold.  From the consumer side, there aren’t easy tools out there that helps you discover AND organize your life based on locations. From the data-provider side, many businesses can provide better services from having risk location information.

Hyperpublic logoWhat keeps you motivated?

Knowing we are building something that make everyone’s lives a little easier, including my own.  Being a New Yorker, I’m always wondering who my neighbors are, or what interesting places are in my neighborhood.  Hyperpublic provides a beautiful, easy-to-use tool that helps me do exactly that.
Being a computer geek, I can think of so many different apps I want to build with the data hyperpublic provides.  I will get around to it when hyperpublic gets a little older.

What keeps you up at night?

Refer to the favorite drink question.

Favorite drink?

The red monster (red bull + monster).  It keeps you awake at night when you are coding.

Doug will be providing a demo at NY Tech Mixer’s February 15 event at Crimson.Visit to RSVP.
