An Interview With Brett Martin, CEO, Sonar.me

Sonar is a mobile application that enables you to discover, learn about, and connect with likeminded people in the room. Sonar is for anyone that is looking to meet new people, be it for business or pleasure. PR, Recruiting, Press, Entrepreneurs, Investors, and others looking for dates all benefit from using sonar. We’re looking for anyone that wants to help change the world, specifically back end developers with big data experience. (Hadoop, Riak, Rails, Neo4j, java etc…)

Why does the world need your product?  Why now?

People are looking for husbands, CTOs, sales leads, and new friends.  Sonar can help by leveraging the rising tide of geo-social data.

What keeps you motivated?

The desire to see it work.

What keeps you up at night?

Email

What would you consider to be a successful result for your company?

Changing the way that people connect with and interact with each other in the physical space for the better. As well as enabling people to feel at home everywhere they go. Making a boatload of money along the way wouldn’t be terrible either.

What has been the most challenging aspect about building your startup so far? What has been the most rewarding?

The challenging aspect is failing everyday and not letting it get to my head. The reward is getting to work side by side with my team, an amazing group of passionate people who excel at what they do.

What advice would you give to other aspiring entrepreneurs?

Just do it.  Entrepreneurship is not complex, just difficult.

What do you do for fun when not working on your company?

Cruel question.  I used to surf, play ball, and read fiction.

What is your favorite drink?

Scotch to sip, Tequila to shoot.

Brett will be providing a demo at NY Tech Mixer’s Demos & Drinks on Tue, Sep 27, 7:00 PM @ Gallery Bar.Visit NYTechMixer.com to RSVP.

I can see he's pretty busy and very goal-oriented. I bet he was surprised about the question on what he does when he's not working.
