Arum is presenting Coffee Meets Bagel on March 20th at the NY Tech Mixer Meetup’s Demos & Drinks.

What does your company do?

Coffee Meets Bagel understands how difficult it is to meet quality singles in New York where everyone’s busy. We’ll introduce you to one single everyday at noon and you’ll both have 24 hours to either “LIKE” or “PASS”. If there’s a mutual “LIKE”, CMB will connect the two of you directly via SMS. We’ll even go the extra mile  by recommending date venues with complimentary gifts on us. It’s private and fun, just how real dating should be.

What were you doing before?

Immediately before launching Coffee Meets Bagel, I was a student at Harvard Business School. Prior to that, I worked as a PM at Amazon and Avon Products. I love being in the consumer product space.

What has been the most challenging aspect about building your startup so far?

I knew I had a great idea with Coffee Meets Bagel and I knew what I wanted to do it. However, I didn’t have a tech co-founder who could make my vision become “real” at the pace I wanted it to be. So my sister, who luckily is a designer, became my co-founder and we went ahead to test our idea and build the application. Soon after, we got lucky and found a tech partner. On the up side, hearing from members on how great our product is and how much fun they are having makes my day.

What advice would you give to other aspiring entrepreneurs?

If you have a vision and you have faith in your product, just do it.

What do you do for fun when not working on your company?

When I’m not working, which is not that often (haha!), I like going out with my friends and go dancing! Out of everything, I love to salsa.

Lastly, of course, what’s your favorite drink?

I like anything earl gray so when earl gray met martini, I knew I would love it. My drink? Early gray marTEAni at Pegu Lounge.
